    BUSINESS PURPOSE

The purpose of this activity is to conduct a review meeting for the final Project Scope and Information Requirements with Data Resource Management.

    OVERVIEW

This is a major review point in DBEM. Before Data Engineering can devise a data base solution, there must be consensus agreement about the information requirements. Misunderstandings or misinterpretations will be costly later on.

There are three major areas to be clarified by the meeting:

    1. That the Project Scope accurately states the business problems/opportunities, and that the boundaries of the project are understood. In particular, all areas of the business affected by the project, both directly and indirectly, should be defined.

    2. That all of the necessary Information Requirements for the project have been considered and that each has been accurately defined.

    3. That all of the necessary objects have been defined to support the information requirements.

Review meetings should be short and to the point. In addition to Data Resource Management, Systems Engineering should be represented at the meeting. The meeting is primarily used to review questions and assure that all in attendance are in agreement. Any changes that occur during the meeting should be noted. After the meeting, the revised requirements are issued.

    STEPS IN EXECUTION

    1. Data Engineering conducts a review meeting with Data Resource Management, Project Management and Systems Engineering. The purpose of the meeting is to confirm the project scope and information requirements.

Based on the review, Data Resource Management will either approve the deliverables or request revisions which Data Engineering implements accordingly.

The net result is a formal agreement of the requirements prior to seeking a data base solution.
