    BUSINESS PURPOSE

The purpose of this activity is to review specifications to develop the Application Physical Data Base Model (APDBM). This includes reviewing the ALDBM, EPDBM, and any pertinent systems documentation. The activity is performed by Data Base Administration.

    OVERVIEW

The main intent of the phase is to design and develop the primary storage files for the application. However, it is also used to design smaller work files for such things as input transaction files, output data files, and working files to pass data between programs and modules. To do so, Data Base Administration will need to review the data and processing requirements from:

    • The Application Logical Data Base Model (ALDBM).

    • The Enterprise Physical Data Base Model (EPDBM).

    • Pertinent systems related documentation, such as the ISEM Phase 2 System Design Manual, Phase 3 Sub-System Design Manuals, and preliminary ISEM Phase 4-II Computer Run Books.

Data Base Administration may need to consult with other development functions to answer questions regarding specifications, this includes: Systems Engineering, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Data Communications Administration.

    STEPS IN EXECUTION

    1. Data Base Administration reviews design specifications resulting from the Application Logical Data Base Model (ALDBM) and the Enterprise Physical Data Base Model (EPDBM). In particular, the DBA considers data and processing requirements.

    2. Data Base Administration prepares a Detail estimate and schedule to complete the activities in Phase 5 (A - D). Although time is primarily allocated to Data Base Administration, consideration is given to other functions who will need to charge time to the phase, including Project Management.

The Detail estimate and schedule is reviewed with Project Management for approval.
