BUSINESS PURPOSE
The purpose of this activity is to plan, estimate and
schedule the remaining project work. This activity represents
a refinement of the plans, estimates and schedules as prepared
in Phase 1, Activity E.
OVERVIEW
As in Phase 1, the following items are addressed:
- The Project Plan is updated as required to denote the
phases and activities required to complete the project,
along with its path. Each Phase 2 is followed in
sequence by a Phase 3 "Physical Enterprise Analysis."
- The use of human resources required to perform the work,
whether known or unknown, is also updated as required.
- The Order-of-Magnitude estimate and schedule is updated
as required to show the amount of Direct time required to
complete the project, costs and dates.
- The "Project Estimate/Schedule Recap" is used to prepare
the Order-of-Magnitude Estimate and Schedule.
NOTE: If the Phase 2 represents one branch in a multiple
path project, then the estimate/schedule is expressed for this
branch only.
Deviations from the Phase 1 plan and estimate/schedule
are highlighted and explained in the Project Plan.
PREPARING FOR REVIEW
Project Management and Enterprise Engineering assures that
all of the Phase 2 activities and materials have been properly
completed. The Phase Review Checklist is used for this purpose.
A formal Phase 2, "Logical Enterprise Study" manual
is then prepared. The manual is reviewed and checked by Quality
Assurance prior to distribution to management for review.
The Phase 2 Manual contains the following items:
- Phase Cover Page - including a Table of Contents,
along with a distribution/approval list.
- Function Chart - as prepared in Activity C.
- Function Profile Report - also prepared in
Activity C.
- Matrices - as prepared in Activity E;
consisting of:
- Enterprise/Function Matrix
- Function/Object Matrix
- Enterprise-Function/System Matrix
- Enterprise-Function/Information Matrix
- Information Requirements - as prepared in
Activity D.
- Function/Skill Matrix - as prepared in
Activity F.
- Project Plan - as prepared in this activity.
- Project Estimate/Schedule Recap - also prepared
in this activity.
- Phase Review Checklist - specifying acceptance
criteria for the deliverables mentioned above.
