The purpose of this activity is to prepare test data in accordance with the Test Criteria as maintained in the Sub-System Design Manual.  

OVERVIEW

Whereas Phase 4-I was used to write and test the administrative procedures and Phase 6 was used to test the computer procedure, the intent of the Phase 7 test is to walk through the sub-system, from start to end. The Phase 3 Sub-System Design Manual, with its Test Criteria section, thereby becomes the "roadmap" for the test.

Test data for the Phase 7 test should simulate 'live' or actual data as closely as possible. As such, the test data resulting from Phase 6 is used. More importantly, Phase 7 is used to test input transaction volume, to assure that there is not an adverse affect on processing speed.

After normal data is processed correctly, Systems Engineering processes unusual or incorrect data to test for proper handling and to check operating features such as re-start, rerun, etc.  

STEPS IN EXECUTION

1. Systems Engineering reviews the Test Criteria as maintained in the Sub-System Design Manual. Also, in preparation for the test, Systems Engineering may wish to obtain a copy of the Administrative Procedure Manual and Computer Run Book.

2. Systems Engineering prepares a Detail estimate and schedule for the activities of Phase 7 (A through C). This is reviewed with Project Management for approval.

3. Systems Engineering prepares test data to effectively test the sub-system.
