    BUSINESS PURPOSE

The purpose of this activity is to plan and execute an effective training program for the system.

    OVERVIEW

This activity marks the culmination of considerable effort in the preparation of the system. Now, the system is being turned over to User Management and DP Operations for production. Education and training is an important part of this transfer and must be handled properly. In addition to users and operations participating in the training, Information Resource Management should be well represented.

Prior to conducting formal training, Systems Engineering should develop training aids. This can take many forms:

    • Transparencies/slides and scripts - using graphics developed during the methodology, for example:

      • System Concept Diagram
      • Sub-System Concept Diagrams
      • System Flowchart
      • Sub-System Flowcharts
      • Illustrative Input/Output Examples
      • pertinent matrices

    • Administrative Procedure Manuals (from the various Phase 4-I's) and Computer Run Books (from the Phase 4-II's).

    • Reference Cards, Templates, Promotional items, etc.

    • A demo or training version of the product.

This material provides an excellent frame of reference for discussing system concepts and objectives. With a little understanding and cooperation, people can and do make systems work.

As a result of this activity, all Users are trained in procedures and systems concepts. They should have in their department a complete set of all procedures required for system operation.

    STEPS IN EXECUTION

    1. Systems Engineering prepares an outline of the training program and training materials, such as visual aids and procedure manuals. The training facilities are also prepared at this time.

    2. Systems Engineering conducts training for Users in how to operate the sub-system(s). Typically, Information Resource Management introduces the session.
